01:08 am: No excuses, FTW!
This is a sports story, but it's interesting ...

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=dw-maynard042809&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

I heard of this fight over the weekend at work and was totally thinking that it was a bad idea. But then I read what Kyle Maynard had to say and couldn't help but agree with him. He's just doing what he loves and who am I to think that he shouldn't. He's a living example that the only limitations we have are the ones we put on ourselves!

12:53 am: You know ...
... that time of night when it's absolutely silent. When you can't hear vehicles, sirens, people, cats, dogs, birds, owls, etc. You've turned off the TV, the appliances are on a small break and the heating system isn't going because it's now too warm outside.

And it's just silence. Just silence. And you feel like you're the only person awake right now in the whole world ...

It's awesome.

12:55 am: Hmmmmmmmm...
An interesting passage from a book I'm reading (it's been on my mind for a few days):

"In any case, what is this thing we call religion? An attempt to find God so as to give a higher purpose to our lives or something primeval buried in our old-new dinosaur brains? Closer to the sacred, inborn drive toward order? Is that what God is about? Simply order? Because we, the human race, fear chaos even more than death?"

01:29 am: 'If' by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

11:01 am: More good news!
A little while back I wrote about my fave director Tim Burton doing a remake of Alice in Wonderland, set for release in 2010. Well, now I can add my fave actor to the project, as Johnny Depp is supposedly set to play the Mad Hatter. Here's the story:

http://celebedge.sympatico.msn.ca/Johnny+Depps+Mad+role/Bang/ContentPostingBang3column?isfa=1&newsitemid=BSBS31951&feedname=BANG&show=False&number=0&showbyline=False&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc&date=False

This is such great news and something huge for me to look forward to!

A couple months ago, I came across an annotated version of the Alice in Wonderland original stories, a huge book, with lots of information on the author, his muses and even tiny details like the weather on the day Lewis Carroll told the Liddell sisters the story of Alice. I'm still going through it because I'm reading more than one book right now, trying to get projects on my house done (I painted the landing, finally!), and catching up with friends from out-of-town and my peeps in the 'Peg.

So far, it's been a great summer!

01:08 am: Funniest thing ever!
Tonight at work (well, last night since it's past midnight), the best pic ever came over the wire. It was of b-baller LeBron James being held back as he yelled at his mom to sit down after she got up from her courtside chair to yell at the guy who'd fouled her son.

I found the vid of it and definitely wanted to share it, since it's hilarious! I must say that if it were my son, I would have done the same thing... ;)

There's plenty more to write about, but I have an early morning meeting, so I need the shut-eye!!!

01:32 am: Awesome read...
Tonight I came across a blog entry that really does an excellent job of explaining the career that I -- and many others -- have chosen, the craft that is journalism.

It's so wonderful that I felt I needed to share it with you all, my small yet very faithful audience, haha! I know that Jupitergal will especially enjoy it, as she has already come across one blissful reader (a.k.a. CRAZY) in the last little while.

ENJOY!

As a side note, since this subject is mentioned in the blog, I'm super happy Georges St. Pierre won the title at UFC 83! I did a little dance of joy at the office, thankfully I was alone since the news came over the wire after my co-workers had left for the night. Now if only the Canadiens beat the Beantowners to clinch the series, that'll have me dancing a little more... ;)

12:38 am: Funny'mercial...
Tonight (oops, Tuesday night) I went to a 'best commercials' show at the Winnipeg Art Gallery with some good friends. It was an hour and a half of big laughs and big groans, I mean, how are some of these winning entries? My grandma could make a better commercial!

Oh well! As expected, there was a great soccer commercial and some great Latin-american ones too. But the one I enjoyed the most was French AND I found it on youtube... Enjoy!!!

Life gives you such high highs and such low lows that sometimes you don't know how to deal with them.

Maybe this way?

12:15 pm: Snakes make me so happy
I was hoping Uptown would have a preview party for the movie 'Snakes on a Plane' and they are, yippee!!!

What does this mean? This means I got two passes for four people to go on Thursday. I have to find three people who want to go and that will make me so popular as EVERYONE wants to be there, hahaha, maybe not everyone...

I've been waiting all year for this movie, not watching the trailers because I want it all to be new. Plus, Samuel L. Jackson, enough said!

Oh, in other news, jupitergal's wedding yesterday was soooo awesome, she looked absolutely beautiful! All in all, everything on the up and up.

P.S. Feliz Cumpleanos hermanito!!!

Didn't think I'd be writing about soccer so soon, but there's a pretty cool commercial featuring my Ronaldo from Brazil. He's the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history!
